Finished at 50041 words to be exact.

The last 4800 words went down quickly. I figured out the ending a couple of days ago. Once I wrote it down it was even more corny than I thought, so I might decide that it's the wrong ending. Oh well, at least it is an ending, unlike one of the alternatives "endings" that I had in mind.

This novel will not be on the top of my "edit" list.

Writing was much easier this year than last year, and maybe even easier than ever before. I wrote very fast, which may have helped a lot.

I think I have a solution for the ending.

I only have 5000 words left to write. I hope that's enough for the ending. This year I won't be writing much more than 50000 words since I'm running short on time.

2500 words today. Somehow I seem to lack energy to write on weekends.

I also seem to lack an ending. And I'm not really close to it either. There's a trip to be made, where a lot of things become explained, but this doesn't help our hero (or me) to figure out how to solve the main problem.

I've also realised that I'm making the same mistake as I always make. I account for almost every day of my main characters adventure, which makes time go much slower than I intended. Tesamella's adventures were supposed to cover several years, not a couple of months. For example, I had thought she'd spend the winter where she is now, but she seems to want to leave after only three days. Darn.

I'm being mean to my main character. I was mean to her yesterday, but I believe this could be even meaner. I'm seriously messing with her feelings now.

Another 3000 words in about 2 hours again. This way I might even be able to finish in time.

One problem is that I may reach 50k before I reach the end of the book, which could mean that I won't find out how it ends this time either. Dammit.

After I finally crossed the magical limit of 30k that seemed so unreachable for many days, the story has started to carry again. I decided to put names on the places, re-using some of the names I've already made up for this world in other stories. That probably messes up the geography big time, but for now it doesn't matter. Somehow naming the countries rather than referring to them as "the homeland" or "the city" helped make the story and places more real.

I've abandoned all attempts to write different versions or analyze the legend. Right now I'm simply writing down the main version. If I need more words at the end I'll fill in some analysis and other versions.

I've also abandoned my goal of 2000-word chapters. I switched to a new file after "chapter 13" had grown past 4000 words, but I didn't put a new chapter number or name on file 14. I'll fix the chapter numbers and all that afterwards, or if I need just a few more words to my wordcount.

Now 2000 words a day will make it. Unfortunately there are two days on which I won't have time to write much at all, so I'll have to make that 2741 words a day.
